“The Peace of Wild Things” by Wendell Berry

The Peace Of Wild Things

The poem by Wendell Berry, author of more than 40 works of fiction, nonfiction and poetry, was first published in 1968. The recipient of numerous awards, Wendall is an American writer from a long time Kentucky farm and local community family.  

His words of hope and healing in this poem just had to be shared as a song. I contacted his foundation and we arrived at an agreement granting me permission to put this poem to music. 

I have never put poetry to music so next I had to learn more about this path. As the universal spirit weighs in at times, the next CDM songwriting workshop was only a few weeks away AND during that weekend, putting poetry to music was actually part of the discussions. In less than a month from first reading these consoling words, I had the song craft resources that actually allows music to come through me for this poem. 

Over the next 6 months, bits and pieces of music began to emerge. Only a couple of weeks ago has the song begun to take shape. Here it is so far….
